Why did you choose Point Park University?

I chose Point Park because of the sports, arts and entertainment management major. No other school offered something as diverse as Point Park’s SAEM program. Visiting campus and talking to professors about the opportunities available to students sealed the deal for me. From the moment I set foot on campus, I knew that Point Park was the right school for me.

How did you land your internship with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

All freshmen in the Introduction to SAEM class are required to complete a 20-hour job shadow experience. I was referred to a representative with the Steelers and although I didn’t shadow with that person, we ended up meeting at the job fair that the SAEM department hosts every February.

I remained in touch throughout the course of my college career and when I saw their internship information get released, I applied and was offered the marketing and events intern position. I work all of the Steelers home games and any marketing events that are held for sponsors at venues like Heinz FieldStage AE and the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. I apply what I've learned in the classroom every day at my internship.

Tell us about your experience at the Pollstar Live! conference in Los Angeles last spring.

My experience at Pollstar Live! was absolutely incredible. Not only did I get to attend the largest entertainment conference in the country, but I had the opportunity to network with so many professionals in the industry. I ended up meeting someone at the conference who connected me to the new Live Nation office in Pittsburgh and I’ve been able to gain experience working concerts with Live Nation as a result of my networking.

You are the new president of the SAEM club. What do you hope to accomplish this year?

SAEM majors can now declare a focus within the program and we’re striving to incorporate each focus area into the SAEM club activities. We’ve created coordinator positions for sports, arts, and entertainment, and we want to make sure everyone feels like they have a place within the club just like they do within our major. We’re planning some new events this year and working to bring in speakers from each area of the program.

What is your favorite coffee shop in the city?

Though it is quite difficult to choose just one, I think my favorite has to be Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange in the Strip District. I’m always searching for cute new coffee shops and they were one of the first places I’ve been to that brews with nitro.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

My main piece of advice to any incoming student is to get as involved as possible! It is key to not only learn in a classroom, but to also get the experience hands on from working with people in the industry, especially in the SAEM program. I signed up for clubs during my first semester on campus and I have been involved with them ever since. It’s always nice to have things on and off campus that keep you busy.
